PHIL COSTELLO is the CEO of the NATIONAL AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM OF TASMANIA (NAMT) which is located in Tasmania’s north eastern city of Launceston.
The museum was originally established by Geoff and Sylvia Smedley in 1987 and run by them until 1915. A not-for-profit foundation was formed to re-establish the museum in 1996.
A new chapter began in September 2019 when the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania moves and re-opened at a new and modern premises in Lindsay Street, Invermay.
The museum has established itself as one of Australia’s finest automotive museums with displays of both classic motorcycles and cars.
In this podcast we spoke to Phil about the museum operation including the changing display themes, the hall of muscle which celebrates the Australian Muscle Car, vintage motorcycles, pre-modern motorcycles including some bikes that we all wish we had kept in our garages, and generally how the museum operates.
